ANNUAL CLAIM 2020: In the year 2020, STWST has developed the annual theme for the disproportionately tilted worlds or excess and scarcity: STWST 2020 MORE VS LESS

With MORE VS LESS we ask in 2020 relevant questions about more-or-less situations, the non-equal areas, the counter-validity zones and the non-zero-sum games of the future.

STWST 2020 MORE VS LESS is included as a theme in the STWST projects during the year from art to club and media - more or less. The theme is found as a background in the theory and practice tracks of STWST art production - with regard to the constant artistic thematization of entropy and this year as a thematization of other metabolic and/or autophagy processes.

MORE VS LESS is included in the art show format STWST48 in September.

MORE VS LESS is, however an access which is a permanent challenge in the extraordinary productivity of the house STWST. This means: The output of STWST, which could and can be managed with a small staff, has been extraordinary in the last years - And this means especially in the irregular year of the Covid-19-Pandemic: It's challenging, we are on it.

In the year 2020, STWST has developed the STWST48 theme for the disproportionately tilted worlds or excess and scarcity: STWST48x6 MORE LESS.

And meanwhile arrived in the Sars-CoV-2-year: With MORE and LESS we ask relevant questions about more-or-less situations, the non-equality areas, the counter-validity zones and the non-zero-sum games of the future.

MORE

Against the background of screaming imbalances, distribution struggles, scarcity of resources, ecological barriers, social issues, questions of access, fears of the future, attempts at redistribution, visions of self-restraint, precarious awareness, egalitarianism, hyper-progress, network fantasies, total surveillance, a scenery of the many against the few; the battle of avant-garde, critical mass and centre-extremists. In front of all these apparent and actual questions of more or less, we want to use STWST48x6 MORE LESS to focus on processes and projects that make a difference.

LESS

With processes and projects that make the difference, we want to take a look at the zones of art, nature, information, movement and sound. In doing so, we want to focus primarily on other networks, aesthetic strategies, autonomous policies and alternative metabolites that are driven by questions of more or less - and, above all, driven by OTHER, as a general other way of thinking. We are concerned with the individual and the many in larger systems and we are concerned with rational and irrational approaches to the all and nothing, in larger contexts of world, society and cosmos. Nothing less, and vice versa, in all directions.

Stadtwerkstatt is looking for local and international artists and critical producers of all fields, who can submit projects that are still in the process of development, but also finished projects.

The selected works will be shown in Stadtwerkstatt at STWST48x6 MORE LESS - a 48-hour non-stop showcase extravaganza of STWST from Sept. 11-13, held in cooperation with Ars Electronica.

NEW SOUND CONTEXTS - STWST, Summer 2020

OPEN CALL: NEW SOUND CONTEXTS

Background: With the STWST annual claim “MORE VS. LESS” and in the sense of the “MORE VIRUS LESS” reopening of the public areas from 2020, May 15th, the STWST was filled with sounds and art from projects from New Art Contexts: With birdsong from the façade, and in the house with sound-and-nothing cathedrals of the microcosmic, isolationism and depth. Open Call: Under the working title “SOUND- UND KUNSTKATHEDRALEN DES NICHTS” we intend to continue this concept of extended SOUND CONTEXTS with invited artists - and in times of MORE and LESS we also want to open this concept to local/national artists. 3-4 areas of the STWST are to be played, the sounds overlap in the house. Recordings on the weekends of the next weeks. Site specific situation, details on request and by arrangement.
