FOG MANIFESTO
From decentralisation to disorientation.
The Stadtwerkstatt's annual claim for 2025 is FOG MANIFESTO.
FOG MANIFESTO thematises the phenomenon of fog and intends to turn fog into a material, medium and manifesto. With FOG MANIFESTO, the Stadtwerkstatt is working within its artistic-theoretical research areas on dissolution, invisibility, diffuseness and new aggregate states. Or also: disorientation, firewalls, machine hallucination, dissociation.
Stadtwerkstatt will become a techno-capitalist Fog Cube in 2025, focussing on its core themes: Elevation of contradiction, new contexts, imagination as material, unmediated art. Fog, swirls, clouds and consciousness: FOG MANIFESTO is primarily about humanist foundations as well as a continuum of critique.
The Stadtwerkstatt is constructing a building made of fog as an overall artistic concept and as an overall artistic performance in September 2025, for which it is looking for foggy, disorientated works and critical continuities between theory and artistic practice.
An open call has been issued - Let's fog around together.

FOG FIEBER
Fog architecture. Larger scale installation and event.
Formless forms. Living in the fog.
In 2025, STWST is planning a project in public space that is designed as fog architecture. Within a semi-permeable, larger abstract form filled with fog that diffuses outwards at its boundaries, a walk-in space of disorientation is created. People are invited to enter it.
The short path to dissolution.
The art event FOG FIEBER, a paraphrased re-enactment of the earlier Stadtwerkstatt project GLASFIEBER, is to be realised as an event in the fog architecture. While the GLASFIEBER project was a skittles tournament with glass skittles as a shattering reality, this year's FOG FIEBER project stages a skittles tournament in the fog - as a spectacle of reduced vision, diffuse events, invisibility and unverifiability.
Fogging for everyone.
Fog bowling is the order of the day - in September at STWST.
Preliminary rounds are planned.

FOG TALKS
Larger language models. Fog theatre and chat protocols.
Come to the fog theatre. Precisely because of the machine processing of information. Precisely because of the growing impact of digitalisation and its extractive practices. Precisely because of an increasingly data-driven society. Precisely because of the “uncleaned, dirty whole” of an all-encompassing technocapitalist context. Precisely because of the fog. This is precisely why we are calling for differently conceived texts about materials, actors and contexts.
Send us your transgressive Fog text. We are looking for texts and text sketches that can negotiate all topics, networks, ToEs and Things-of-Things that are imaginable. But which directly or indirectly confront the antagonists of imagination and hallucination. Or more concretely: At the new edges of your personal world, we are looking for text protocols on mind research, talks on fiction drafts, recordings on formless forms, codes on alienated objects, language transfers on illusory properties, chats on realities that no longer materialise.
Fog theatre and fog talks are the order of the day - in September at STWST.
An open call has been announced - see below.
You're reading in the fog?
Good.
Is there an audience?
Never mind.
Your staging is bad?
Nobody sees it.

FOG MANIFESTO OPEN CALL
STWST Stadtwerkstatt < --- > FOG MANIFESTO < --- > FOG FIEBER < --- > 5.-7. Sept 2025
Stadtwerkstatt is announcing an OPEN CALL for its STWST48 format in September. That has been STWST's associated showcase format for Ars Electronica for the last 10 years. The annual extravaganza was the format for STWST's New Art Contexts.
In 2025, this showcase will take place around 5-7 Sept on the theme of FOG MANIFESTO, but the format as it has been in recent years will be rethought. Especially during its Ars projects, Stadtwerkstatt engages in intensive dialogue with international art and co-op partners and their approaches to art, media, technology, information and autonomy. Precisely because of its success and because the content, reception, frequency and format have grown steadily over the years, longer-term frameworks for reflection are to be created - for example through projects and formats of the Stadtwerkstatt on the Ars that go back to 1984 - or through future perspectives that are currently being discussed or that can be designed as part of the Open Calls.
The format will continue to be an exhibition space, discourse space and artistic-critical day and night programme in 2025. The content will still focus on core issues and interzones of consciousness, information and art.
We are looking for context-related reflection, texts and artistic works on the subject of fog for 2025.
- We are calling for generally critical producers from the fields of art, technology, media, open access, DIY and discourse who want to contribute artistic works on and off screen, performances, text contributions and more to the Fog Cube as part of an overall artistic concept and an overall presentation of the building. We are looking for extended media art by n+1 artists.
- We are looking for critical producers with explicitly developed aesthetics between art, media art and actionism and/or concepts of art after the new media - and works on the subject of fog.
- We are also looking for critical producers who can contribute texts on the subject of fog that are somewhere between art and theory.
- We are also looking for people who would like to participate in the FOG FIEBER project as actors - see the project description on these pages.
- We are also looking for contributions for the FOG TALKS programme - see the project description on this page.
Overall, the Stadtwerkstatt is concerned with an open society, with resistant individuals or vital working communities that enable a critical view of the present. This in order to keep an open view of the future.
In this sense:
We welcome submissions.
Submission:
1 page project presentation, 1/2 page self-presentation.
